ERIK VOSE IS A PRODUCTION MANAGER, LIGHTING DESIGNER, GRAPHIC DESIGNER, & VIDEOGRAPHER.
I have over a decade of Director-level theatrical production experience. My passion is turning technology into art, and my skills range from production management and lighting design to non-linear film editing and graphic design.
Currently I'm the Director of Production at La Crosse Community Theatre where I coordinate all production aspects of all of LCT's productions.
Recently, as a freelance video editor, I utilize Adobe Premiere Pro to conceptualize and execute two regularly scheduled videos a week, plus five or ten special project videos each month. I have also assisted with multiple livestreaming events, utilizing OBS, Vimeo, YouTube, Facebook, and other streaming platforms.
At the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, I was the Director of Operations / Technical Director of the Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center. I helped them open this new facility in 2017. I taught student crews, provided technical support to all UMHB productions, contracted guest artists, and managed the guest artists events. I also eventually took on the duties of producing the marketing materials for the College of Visual and Performing Arts. During that time I designed and built the set for The Music Man and designed and halfway built the set for Carousel before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Previously, I was the Director of Production at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto, CA from 2011 to 2017, and the Assistant Director of Production for the four previous years. As the Director of Production, I oversaw the advancing, scheduling, and staffing for over 300 + events a season in the Center’s two venues, as well as overseeing my department’s budget and capital purchases. I coordinated everything from lighting, sound, and staging to costumes, make-up, wigs, and props. I worked with shows of all sizes, ranging from six truck, Broadway touring shows to small, single instrument recitals.
I know what it takes to put on an event from the contract phase through load-out.
During my time in Modesto, I was the lighting designer for Townsend Opera Players where I designed two to three opera or musical theatre productions a season for 8 years.
I also served as the Technical Director for Stanislaus County’s Youth Entertainment Stage Company from 2009-2015. YES Company produces a professional quality musical every summer during the month of July with a cast and crew of students from elementary to high school age. Additionally, I stage managed for our local ballet company, Central West Ballet, as well as assisted them with the placement and reconstruction of their rental sets, acting as their technical director. Central West Ballet is a preprofessional company, and the dancer’s range in age from high school to young adult.
I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre design and technology with emphasis on lighting design and technical direction, so I know the process it takes for a show to be staged.
When it comes to leadership, I am a strong leader who has worked with a variety of crews with varying levels of experience, from student volunteers to IATSE stagehands, and I can handle any type of personality.
I am an excellent problem solver, making troubleshooting any problems that may arise a challenge I can easily handle. Having been part of a high volume of shows, I have learned several tricks on how to make a production come together.
